Join Beechgrove Garden star to open new Plant Market

Mackenzie & Cruickshank will open its new half a million pound extension with BBC1’s Beechgrove Garden presenter Carole Baxter on hand to answer any horticultural queries – and we want you to join us for the fun.

We will welcome Carole who has presented the show for over 30 years on April 1 and 2 when we showcase the new fully covered area.

The extension encompasses a new plant market, pet zone, area for garden accessories and more space for compost and pots.

The development has also enabled us to employ two new full-time members of staff.

Peter Wilson, owner of Mackenzie and Cruickshank said: “We are delighted to have Carole Baxter attending our opening weekend. She has a wealth of knowledge in gardening and we would encourage everyone to come down and say hello and bring along any queries you may have. To have someone of Carole’s calibre on your doorstep is an opportunity not to be missed.”

Speaking of the extension itself, Peter added: “The new extension means that Mackenzie & Cruickshank can now be a great day out whatever the weather and will no doubt be the go to place for plants, shrubs, trees and all other garden necessities.

“The building the plant market is housed in looks sensational, and is extremely eye catching from the road. It is an exciting time for us and all this extra covered space means that we have been able to move things around in the existing space too. For example, we have been able to extend our clothing and gift range too.”

Carole Baxter who also contributes to BBC Radio Scotland’s Out for the Weekend show and is a trustee for the horticultural charity Perennial and was also awarded the Scottish Horticultural Medal in 2013 will be at the garden centre between 11-3pm on April 1 and 2nd.

She said: “I am delighted to have been asked along to help with the opening of the new Mackenzie & Cruickshank extension and I look forward to meeting everyone and being able to help with any gardening questions and queries.”

The main focus of the event will fall between 11-3pm each day when there will be live music, a face painter, balloon sculptures and goody bags being given away.
